Privacy Policy - ContextHUD
Effective Date: May 21, 2026
ContextHUD ("we," "our," or "us") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how our Google Chrome extension handles user data. Our core philosophy is simple: Your Claude conversation content and session data stays on your machine and is not transmitted to ContextHUD-owned servers. The one optional exception -- the Pro Handoff feature -- is described in Section 2 and only ever runs if you choose to turn it on.
1. Single Purpose & Stated Functionality
ContextHUD functions as a local session visibility and workflow management layer for serious AI users. It provides real-time token/context calculation, turn counting, and session status metrics within your active browser tabs on supported AI platforms (such as Claude.ai).
2. Data Collection and Processing (Local-First Policy)
ContextHUD operates under a strict local-first architecture:
- No Remote Data Transmission by Default: We do not run remote data collection servers or central databases. ContextHUD does not transmit, upload, or sync your chat sessions, text inputs, prompts, or history to ContextHUD-owned servers, or to any other external server -- except for the optional, user-initiated Pro Handoff feature described below. ContextHUD does not proxy, log, sell, or store your Claude conversation data on a ContextHUD-operated server.
- Local Page Processing: ContextHUD reads and processes the text content of your Claude.ai conversation locally in your browser to power the session pressure HUD, Search, Export, and Handoff features -- including session structure, turn count, attachment indicators, timestamps, and context and session pressure signals. This processing occurs entirely within your browser. Conversation content is not stored, transmitted to ContextHUD servers, sold, shared, or used for advertising.
- Local Storage: Any configuration settings, local turn counters, your optional Anthropic API key (see below), or premium session exports (Pro Tier features) are written directly to and read exclusively from your browser's secure local storage (
chrome.storage.local). ContextHUD does not transmit, store, or have access to this data on any server. - Optional AI-Powered Handoff (Pro): ContextHUD Pro includes an optional Handoff feature that generates an AI-written summary of your session so you can pick up where you left off in a new conversation. This feature does nothing unless you enter your own Anthropic API key. If you optionally provide your own Anthropic API key for Pro Handoff summaries, that key is stored locally in Chrome extension storage and used only to send selected transcript content directly from your browser to
api.anthropic.comwhen you explicitly trigger the feature. This call to Anthropic's/v1/messagesendpoint is the only network request ContextHUD's extension code makes. Your API key is never transmitted to or stored on ContextHUD servers. If you never provide an API key or never run Handoff, no session content is ever sent to Anthropic or anyone else. - No Activity Tracking: ContextHUD does not collect browsing history, keystrokes, mouse movement, scroll activity, or data from sites other than claude.ai and api.anthropic.com. ContextHUD does not include any analytics or telemetry SDK.
3. Third-Party Data Sharing and Transfers
Other than the optional, user-initiated Pro Handoff feature described in Section 2 -- which sends session content directly from your browser to Anthropic only if you supply your own Anthropic API key and choose to run it -- ContextHUD does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share your Claude.ai conversation content, prompts, responses, or session history. Payment processing is handled by Stripe under their own privacy policy and terms. Email or waitlist forms, if used, are handled by a third-party email provider and are entirely separate from the extension's local processing of session data. We do not sell personal data.
- We absolutely prohibit the use of any processed technical data for personalized advertising, data broker monetization, or profiling.
- No human operators or developers affiliated with ContextHUD will ever read your conversation history or extension interactions.
- If you uninstall ContextHUD, Chrome may show a generic feedback form link. That link does not include any user data, conversation content, or query parameters.
4. External Payments & Authentication
Subscription and lifetime access purchases for ContextHUD Pro are handled entirely externally through our secure merchant partner (Stripe). No payment details, billing information, or financial credentials ever pass through or are stored by the extension software itself.
5. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Compliance
ContextHUD strictly adheres to the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, including the Limited Use restrictions. Our use of information accessed through Chrome APIs and supported AI platform pages is limited strictly to providing the user-facing ContextHUD session visibility and workflow features described in our Chrome Web Store listing and in the extension interface. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Permissions
ContextHUD requests only the permissions required for its stated features: activeTab and scripting to read session state from Claude.ai; storage to save user preferences and session exports locally; downloads to enable user-initiated session exports; and alarms for session timing indicators. No permissions are requested for purposes unrelated to session visibility and workflow management.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect platform additions or technical adjustments. Any modifications will be updated directly on this page and noted in our public changelog.
